Lewiston once had two yards with the upper one near the main station on the north side of Main Street, and the lower one running between Lincoln and Canal Streets. All the yard tracks may be gone in the upper yard, but it is still a good place to go because the eastbound grade is up hill on a heavy grade and engines will often be maxed out. I remember comming across a train one day that had almost stalled and took ten minutes to get the lead engine across Whipple street.
